I first met Lucy Chamberlain a few months back, when she was a panellist at a A League of Her Own event. When it comes to women supporting women, Lucy walks her talk. As founder of award-winning C&C Search, the PA and support staff specialists, she runs an exciting young business with massive growth plans. She’s constantly giving back to her community too through a series of genuinely inspiring events, hosting the recently launched Women in Business Show and opening up her network to create new collaboration opportunities.
From lifelong learning and meditation through to building a support network of female founders and time-out at The Ned, Lucy shares her work happy here.
Can you sum up what you do in a sentence?
I lead a business that has the incredible privilege of placing people into their next career move.
Why did you decide to get into this?
What could be more fascinating than learning about different companies and getting to know people and their career journey and motivations on a daily basis?
What are the big plans for the C&C Search right now?
We are heading towards 35 people and a £7milliom turnover in the next three years – we’re ahead of plan at the moment!
What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken that’s paid off?
Leaving my safe role as a Partner in a large recruitment firm and starting up (with very little money!)
How do you invest in yourself?
I’m a learning addict and read constantly. I love to attend talks with inspirational speakers and have recently started another degree in psychology!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
So many places – my brother and business partner is my constant source of inspiration and then it comes in spades from the incredible female founders that are in my tribe. Lastly, but most importantly my 10 year old daughter!
What’s the one success habit that’s changed your business?
Daily meditation, hands down in terms of how I lead the business. I meditate morning and evening for 10 minutes each, using the Buddhify app.
Who’s your support network?
My husband, my brother and business partner, my team and all the female founders I surround myself with!
Work-life balance – what’s the secret?
No idea, if you find out will you promise to call me first?
How do your relax?
I spin and go to yoga and I am a member of The Ned where I can rest and relax when I need some R&R!
What makes you happiest about your work?
So many things!!! My awesome team, the work we do placing great people in great businesses daily, the legacy we are leaving with our charity work the partnerships we have made with other female founders and the list goes on and on!
